About

We’re out here, executing on our vision.

The need for lithium has never been greater — and it’s not slowing down. We can’t afford distractions or disruptions.

That’s why we’re always on the move. We’re out there, in the field, in the dirt. Always exploring, adapting, and evolving to deliver on the promise of fast, clean, and affordable direct lithium extraction.

We are Lilac and we’re made for the electric now.

Our Progress

2025

Lilac IX Gen 5

Gen 5 boosts reactor throughput, increases IX media productivity and durability, enhances eluate quality, and simplifies brine pretreatment. These advancements deliver simpler project flowsheets, driving down capital and operating costs for lithium producers. Download the white paper for performance data and cost impacts of Gen 5 Lilac IX.

Neptune Energy Pilot Plant Completed

Pilot plant using Gen 5 Lilac IX and oilfield brine from wells at Neptune Energy’s site in Steinitz, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.  Marks Lilac’s first pilot in Europe and first oilfield brine pilot.

Great Salt Lake Pilot Plant Completed

Lithium pilot on the Great Salt Lake in Utah, USA, achieved 87% average lithium recovery on 69 mg/L Li brine and 99.97% overall impurity rejection. Lilac’s non-consumptive and non-contaminating process reinjects lithium-depleted brine back into the lake and does not lower lake water levels.

Argentina Demo Plant Completed

Lilac’s Gen 4 demonstration plant in Jujuy, Argentina achieves 91% lithium recovery from a 300 mg/L salar brine. The plant used an IX vessel that is ~1/3 the size of what will be used at commercial scale.

2024

Commercial-scale IXM Manufacturing Line Starts Construction

Lilac begins civil and other works to support its eventual commercial line in Fernley, Nevada.

Lilac IX Gen 4

Lilac announces Gen 4 Lilac IX which delivers advancements in IXM durability, enabling 4,000 cycles even for low-grade brines, 90%+ lithium recoveries for most brines, and capital cost improvements.

Chile Pilot Plant Completed

Lilac completes pilot in Chile, with 94% lithium recovery on a 2,200 mg/L brine using Gen 2 Lilac IX.

Series C Funding

Lilac closes $145M in Series C financing led by Mercuria, Lowercarbon Capital, and Breakthrough Energy Ventures.

2023

Kachi Demonstration Plant Completed

Lilac completes first demonstration-scale pilot in Argentina with Lake Resources, achieving all technical and operational targets, including high lithium recovery and minimal water usage.

2022

Lilac IX Gen 3

Lilac improves IXM cycle life to 3,000 cycles, redesigns lithium extraction module with 100% off-the-shelf equipment.

2021

Series B Funding

Lilac closes $150M in Series B financing led by Lowercarbon Capital.

First Field Pilot

Lilac deploys first field pilot and successfully demonstrates technology under harsh field conditions.

2020

Lilac IX Gen 2

IXM durability improves to 1,000 cycles.

Pilot-scale IXM Manufacturing Line Operational

Successfully expands bead manufacturing from lab scale to pilot scale, to produce IXM for field pilots globally.

Series A Funding

Lilac raises $20M in Series A funding, led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures.

2019

First Pilot

Lilac demonstrates technology at pilot scale in Oakland, CA.

2018

IXM Cycle Life Testing Begins

Lilac demonstrates 300 absorption cycles, an early milestone in improved durability of ceramic ion exchange media (IXM), historically constrained to 10’s of cycles.

2017

Lilac IX Gen 1

Lilac opens lab and develops first generation of the company’s lithium ion exchange technology.

Seed Round Funding

Lilac closes $800,000 seed financing round led by angel investors.

2016
