Lilac Solutions Hires Raef Sully as Chief Operating Officer
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OAKLAND, Calif., June 1, 2023
Lilac Solutions today announced Raef Sully, former Executive Vice President of global agriculture company Nutrien, and former CEO of Nutrien’s Nitrogen and Phosphate business, as its new Chief Operating Officer. The selection of Sully – who brings decades of experience leading large mining and chemicals operations – is the latest high-caliber expansion of Lilac’s leadership team and comes as the company marks historic advancements in clean and ultra-efficient lithium extraction.
Sully spent 10 years at global agriculture company Nutrien, where he served in multiple roles, including as CEO of the company’s $10 billion Nitrogen and Phosphate unit. He brings extensive experience in driving large-scale growth and capital projects, and managing multinational workforces. Prior to Nutrien, Sully drove strategy for oil field services, mining supply chains, and other heavy industrial sectors at Bain & Company.
“We’re excited to welcome Raef to the team,” said Dave Snydacker, CEO of Lilac Solutions. “Lithium sits at the intersection of mining and chemicals, and the pace of growth in this industry requires tight integration between project execution and operations. Raef’s leadership will help us ensure continued excellence in developing our global portfolio of projects into commercial production.”
Lilac’s ion-exchange technology yields significantly higher recoveries of lithium from a wider variety of project sites on faster timelines and with minimal land and water impacts compared to conventional lithium brine processing. Lilac employs more than 200 people around the world. The company has engineering offices, manufacturing facilities, and field operations across California, Nevada, Utah, Vancouver, and South America.
In October 2021, Lilac announced its $150 million Series B financing round, led by Lowercarbon Capital and funds and accounts advised by T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., with participation from SK Materials, Presidio Ventures (a Sumitomo Corporation Group Company), Mercuria Energy Trading, BMW i Ventures, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, and The Engine.
